Respite care at home

A proper break for family carers, with your loved one looked after by someone they know and trust. Regular cover or one-off, planned or short notice.

What this means in practice

Your routine, not ours

Caring for someone at home is relentless. There are no shifts, no handover at the end of the day. If you are the person holding everything together, you already know what that feels like. Respite care gives you permission to step away, properly, knowing that someone capable and kind is looking after your family member.

We can cover anything from a couple of hours a week to a full fortnight while you take a holiday. The care plan is built around your family member's routine, not ours. If they like a cup of tea at ten and lunch at one, that is what happens. The point is that life carries on as normal and they should barely notice the difference.

Knowing I could actually switch off on holiday, because the carers already knew Mum's routine, was everything.

What we hear most often

Before any respite care starts, we arrange introductions. The carer visits while you are still there, gets to know the routine, and builds a rapport. By the time you leave, everyone feels settled. No last-minute introductions, no crossed fingers.

Is this right for your family

You do not need to justify needing a break

If you look after a family member and you are tired, this is for you. It does not matter whether you need a fortnight's holiday or a few hours each week to go to an appointment without worrying. You do not need to justify needing a break. Everyone does.

Respite care is also useful if you are recovering from your own illness or surgery and cannot provide the level of care you normally would. It bridges the gap while you get back on your feet.

What makes us different

How we do it

Seamless cover, short notice if needed. These are the things that matter when you need to step away.

Flexible booking

A couple of hours each week, a full fortnight while you take a holiday, or emergency cover at short notice. We keep capacity specifically for respite so we can say yes when you need us.

Same team, every visit

Your family member sees the same small team of carers, not a different face each time. Consistency matters, especially when someone else is stepping in for you.

Introductions before you leave

No carer is ever sent to someone they have not met. Every new team member visits with you there first, learns the routine and builds rapport before care starts.

Family app for peace of mind

See visit notes, check when carers arrived, and stay in the loop from wherever you are. You do not need to phone the office to check in. The information is there when you want it.

If your family member has specific health needs like medication, PEG feeding or mobility support, we match them with a carer who is trained and confident in those areas. We do not send someone who is going to have to call the office for instructions.

Your questions answered

Common questions about respite care

Answers to the things families ask us most often.

We can often arrange respite care within a few days. If you are planning a holiday or a break in advance, the more notice you give us the easier it is to match the right carer. But we understand that sometimes things come up suddenly. A family emergency, or you just reach the point where you need a break now. Talk to us and we will do what we can.

Yes. Families have access to our care app where you can see visit notes, check-in times and any updates from the carer. You do not have to phone the office to find out how your loved one is doing. The information is there when you want it.

Not at all. Some families use respite care for a weekend break, others use it for a few hours each week so they can run errands or just have some time to themselves. There is no right or wrong way to use it. If you need a break, that is reason enough.

We arrange introductions before care starts so everyone can meet. If the match is not right, we will change it. The whole point of respite care is that you can step away feeling confident. That only works if the person being cared for is comfortable.
